On our tours of Belfast we advise a call at the Titanic Dry Dock. To look into this vast chasm gives you a real feel of the scale of the Titanic. Bearing in mind it was 1902 in Belfast shipyard , it is truly remarkable. Some facts about the Titanic are truly interesting….

It cost 7.5 million dollars to build the Titanic

Price of a single first class ticket was 4,700 dollars…or 50,000 dollars in todays money

1503 lost their lives

The Titanic was rediscovered in 1986….74 years after it sank

If you visit the Titanic Dry Dock you could also visit Titanic exhibition at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum…it is not far away ! If your cruise ship is in Belfast in 2010 contact us regarding our day tours.

Ireland Luxury Tours is proud of the history of the Titanic in Belfast and as many here say….”She was okay when she left here”

It’s amazing how many visitors from abroad don’t realise that the Titanic was actually built in Belfast! Because she bore the name of the port of Liverpool on her stern people assume that this was where she was built. In fact Liverpool was simply the home port of the White Star Line fleet of which Titanic was the ultimate flagship.
Titanic was conceived, designed, built and launched in Belfast and… as they proudly say locally “She was alright when she left here!!!”

Scheduled guided Titanic tours take in the historic Harland & Wolff shipyards and the famous Titanic sites around Belfast Harbour. Although many of the riverside Harland & Wolff sheds were demolished in early 2002 and those sites/sights are now gone, their demolition has actually provided a much better view of the Titanic slipways which were previously hidden by these same sheds.

The harbour area itself has always been a romantic and mysterious place, full of interesting sights, sounds and history, an exciting place which reeks of adventure and far off places! As a busy working port, most of it has been inaccessible to the public for many years unless you were employed in the shipping or shipbuilding industries, or were a passenger aboard an incoming or outgoing ferry or liner. This tour is a unique opportunity to experience all those exciting travel urges that seem to grip your senses in such a place!

Titanic tours depart from the number 2 jetty in front of the Royal Mail building beyond the sculpture of the ’Big Fish’.

On your tour of Ireland dont miss the Titanic heritage of Belfast….

On our tours of Ireland we recommend a visit to the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum. See how people lived in Ireland through the ages and how they travelled. With real thatched cottages and old Belfast terraced houses moved on site brick by brick …..you can really feel the atmosphere. There are old school houses and churches , shops and even a pub ! The steam trains and collection of vintage cars have to be seen. There are carriages and trams and even a Dolorean car (remember those). The museum is also home to a fantastic Titanic Exhibition centre. See it all with Ireland Luxury Tours.

Dear Maurice,

Thank you very much for the excellent day of touring you provided for us on Friday August 28, 2009.

Not familiar with the territory, we made contact with you though a US agency, and you took our thoughts, gathered from guidebooks, and devised an excellent itinerary to see the most in the time we had on the ground during the port visit of our cruise ship in Belfast. We enjoyed the Antrim Coast, Dunluce Castle, the Giants’ Causeway, our special lunch location in the tiny Ballintoy Harbour, and the drive through glens enroute to Belfast.

Then you provided us a personal look at your city, and we enjoyed the many perspectives you shared about its key sights and its history at locations such as City Hall, Grand Opera House, Queens University, Albert Memorial Clock, and the brief stop at the Titanic Dry Dock.

Our personal tour away from the forty-passenger coaches was most enjoyable, and we much appreciated your local resident perspective on all that we did and the clear responses to all our questions. By the end of the day, we arrived back at the ship in time for sailing and with many fond memories.

We appreciate the fine day we enjoyed with you and will certainly recommend you and your agency to others.

Please feel free to share this note as a testimonial for other prospective clients.

Regards,

Our unique overview of Belfast takes in the City Hall , Queens University , Grand Opera House , and the famous Titanic Dry Dock…..

Coupled with a tour of the Shankhill road and Falls road you get a real flavour of Belfast and its rich history.

We can often complete this overview at the end of one of our North Coast tours or other day itineraries. This makes it particularly suitable for cruise ship passengers who want to “max out” their time.

Any tour of Ireland would not be complete without taking in the city of Belfast.

The history of Belfast as a settlement goes back to the bronze age. Its history is rich with major industries such as ship building and linen. A lot of the old buildings survive and the city is a tapestry of architecture. The new mixes nicely with the old and allows for a very interesting tour.
